Since I’m planning on teaching elementary school children, I will probably lecture and also have group assignments. I hope to have fun things for the children to do that will make their learning experience better. I think that all students should have the same requirements because I think it affects some students positively but others negatively. However, the “smarter” children who finish their work quickly could start disrupting the children who take longer to finish, which could be a problem. In that case, you don’t want the children to be bored and disruptive so as a teacher you should find something productive for them to do, without making the other children feel like they’re missing out on something or feel dumb.
Technology is everywhere, so I’m sure I will be using some sort of technology in my classroom. Since I will be teaching young children I will probably have fun educational games that they can play on the computer. I may also use PowerPoint to teach a lesson. I could create assignments for them to complete on the computer as well.
The purpose of schools is to teach academic content but also some values. Some children don’t have parents that spend time with them and teach them life skills and values. As a teacher of younger children, you are almost like a second parent because you are around them so much. I think there should be a national curriculum. If a student had to move to another school because of their parents in the military, and there was a national curriculum then they would have an easier adjustment. When I was in school, we would have new students and many times their old school would not be as far along in the subject as our school was, so they would be confused. On the other hand, some students would already have learned the lesson we were learning so they ended up being bored and disruptive.
