Author Reflection

I was surprised at the amount of research gone into this subject has mostly been from the perspective of educators. This impressed me because I expected to find a lot of information on how students were changing and the teachers needed to catch up and I did but I expect this sentiment to come from students, or rather digital natives. I was also caught of guard by the thought of teachers being digital natives and then again by the fact that they are even needing more technology training for implementation.

After starting this project I had a conference with my daughter's teacher for her 6Th grade advanced English class, her teacher made the comment to me that she was hoping that in the next 2 or 3 years the kids would each have their own laptops in the classrooms and how greatly that would improve their learning experiences. That surprised me because for one thing she was older than me and probably not in the digital native category and two was the fact that it is truly the teachers that are pushing for this advance in technology in school. I learned that technology has many educational benefits and that not all digital natives are automatically ready for teaching with technology and not all digital immigrants fear and shy away from teaching with technology.

I liked this project, I had fun with it. The Wittie application was sometimes difficult and I had a hard time with spell checking and not being able to change text color very easily or at all. I think the editing toolbar needs some more options. I also had some trouble with all my information saving. I typed my article in word because it is easier to use and I could spell check but when I cut and pasted not everything transferred and saved, I don't know why that is. On the original submitted article my Bibliography and Multiple choice sections did not transfer . Also there were times I was in the application and had to open another tab to check some things and when I flipped back to my tab I was no longer logged in. I of course did not notice this until I went to save page and it wouldn't let me so all the changes I had made in the edit page were gone, that was frustrating. And I still don't know how to retrieve my peer reviews so I can rate them.

All in all This was a really neat learning experience.
