Clusters:

Each year, we are given a cluster, which is a group of kids who we spend most of the year with. There are five clusters. There are usually four teachers per cluster. There are also about 90 kids per cluster.

Percentage of people in each cluster in Technology 7-3BMy picture.png

Our survey asked what cluster are you in for 7-3B Technology. Twenty one people were surveyed. 21% of the people is in cluster 1, 36% is in cluster 2, 16% is in cluster 3, 16% is in cluster 4, 11% is in cluster 5.

Most of the people were in cluster 2 and the least is cluster 5.  I was not surprised that people in cluster 5 have the least people in our class.  No, I don't think based on this that we could draw an accurate conclusoin because there is so little people in our class.

Advisory:

Each day we spend about 15 minutes in advisory. We go to advisory after electives. Advisory teachers are part of a cluster, so basically its a cluster split up even more. In advisory we talk about our issues and opinions and do activities such as games or worksheets.

Classes:

We have four main classes. They are pre-algebra, science, social studies, and english. We also have electives each trimester. (Electives are included in the survey.)

This survey asked what students' favorite classes were. They came up with their own answers and were not asked to choose among a list of choices. The students in Ms. Stern's 1A  seventh grade computers class were surveyed. 18 students were surveyed. The least amount of people prefered social studies and the most amount of people prefered gym. 3 students chose art/ceramics, 3 chose science, 7 chose gym, 2 chose experienial ed, 1 chose social studies, and 2 chose chorus. I was not surprised by the results, because I knew that many people like gym and not very many people like social studies, but I expected experiential ed to be a higher percentage. I think that we can draw accurate conclusions about how the rest of the seventh grade at Pollard would respond to this survey based on the current survey results. This is because my class is just a random group of seventh graders that probably have similar opinions to other seventh graders.

Electives:

Each trimester we have new electives, Every student chooses between girls chorus, boys chorus, band, strings, or a rotation of electives such a ceramics, music explorations, and theatre. We also take other electives such as P.E., computers, engineering design, health, and a language (French or Spanish).

Gym

In gym we just finished three sports: Paddle ball, Foot ball, orStreet hockey. Street Hockey is hockey in the street instead of on ice. If you arent familiar with these sports then click on they're name.

Lunch

We have many different school lunches offered in the cafateria such as taco salad bowl, macaroni and cheese, and turkey burger. Every day the school offers chicken patty sandwich, grilled chicken sandwich, buffalo chicken patty sandwich, stuffed crust pizza, hamburger, and veggie burger. There are also a few fresh fruits and vegetables, cookies, ice cream, and snacks. Milk comes with the meal, but you can also get juice or water. Many students bring lunch. We eat in the cafateria at tables that are usually assigned. Every week one cluster eats in the lecture hall because there is not enough room in the cafeteria.Lunch costs $2.25. I think we shoud get free seating... this is why. At lunch we are supposed to be able to socilaize with the people we want to. I think we should be able to choose our seats everyday because when we do pick free seats, there won't be any fighting of where and who is at a table, if we could choose our seat everyday you could sit with different people everyday and it would be a good time to meet new people.

After school:

There are many PAS (Pollard After School) programs. Students can also stay after school with a teacher to get extra help or work on homework. Other options are the treble choir, student council, jazz band, wind ensemble and the school musical.

Powerschool:

The teachers put our grades on powerschool so that we and our parents can see our grades. This way, we can improve.

Powerschool: powerschool.needham.k12.ma.us/public/

Transportation:

Many people take school buses to and from school. Some of us get driven by our parents, and some walk. A small few skateboard or bike to school.

Homework:

Gracesurveychart.png

We get homework every night to help us review what we have learned during the day and make sure we understand. We usually get about 45 minutes to an hour of homework each night.

I don't think we should have homework. I think its unneccessary. Here's why:

Staff

We have a lot of great teachers at Pollard. We have elective teachers and our cluster teachers. There are also janitors to clean the school, people to cook and serve our lunches, the school nurse, the Principal (Mr. Brand), and councelors.

Pollard is located near Defazio field, a series of fields which are used for soccer, football, baseball and lacrosse.

There is a track we use to run laps on for the mile run.

The black buildings attached to the white school are the modular classrooms. They are no longer in use, due to no more overcrouding.

High Rock

Pollard used to hold 6, 7, and 8th graders but now only holds 7th and 8th. This is because they built a new school for Sixth graders. The problem was, Pollard was overcrowded. Over 1,100 kids were attending. Not everyone wanted to build High Rock. So they had an override, to decide wether to build it or not. When the votes came in it said that the override had won. So the town decided to move the sixth graders into the newly renovated High Rock. Now Pollard is a whole lot less crowded. The only downside is that the bus ride in the morning stinks. We have to go to High Rock, wait 5 minutes, then let the kids off. Most of the time we get to school late, but we get excused tardy passes.

Here was the results to a survey I did  with my class:

Picture 5.png

This shows that more people like having High Rock. I think that it was a good idea to build High Rock, because this shows that more people like having High Rock.

The class that I am in is 3b.
