Music In Needham

There are many reasons to play  a instrument in needham. We have Needham Plugged In. It's an organization that puts teens into bands and gives them a place to practice (a small building in town center). Plugged In has a concert every session at the end of the session, and various independent opportunities to do smaller performances.

Instruments

Many people play instruments.  There is a band, strings, and an orchestra in school.  Some instruments in the band are:

We also have the Pollard jazz band and the Pollard wind ensemble.  The jazz band plays advanced jazz music and the wind ensemble plays regular classical music but still advanced.

Jazz band is a very advanced group that plays a variety of Jazz songs from Jumpin' at the Woodside to Moon River. They are directed by a director who is an alto saxophone player. He plays a large range of instruments. The group performs many gigs at different places, the soonest, an event called Winterfest. We perform while the audience eats a buffet dinner before the High School concert.

Wind Ensemble is an advanced group that plays a variety a classical music from Air for Band to British Isles Suite. They are directed by the same conductor who directs Jazz Band and Concert Band.

Vocals

In Needham you can also use your voice. In elementary school you are required to take chorus, in third, fourth, and fifth grades.  In fifth grade you can decide if you want to be in Honors Chorus, and in middle school you can choose to be in Treble Choir. But you have to try out for both! Ranges are:

• Soprano
• Second Soprano
• Alto

In elementary school you have Mrs. Tryon for Honors Chorus

Popular Radio Stations

Kiss108 (107.9) is a poplar radio stations.  It plays all kinds of music, but mostly mainstream pop music.

Jam'n 94.5 is also very popular.  They have a wide variety of genres including, rap, hiphop, and R&B (rythm and blues).

A good radio station for rock is 92.9, and a good station for classic rock and oldies is 105.7or 100.7

We surveyed our computers class on what their favorite song is. We questioned twenty people;nineteen kids and one adult. The most popular songs were Sexy Chick and Drop it Low. The least popular songs were Enter San Man, Stairway to Heaven, Viva la Vida, and Down. We can guess that if we surveyed the rest of the seventh grade the results would be similar. There will be more songs on the list, and each song will have more votes.
